Double Baby Strollers

Get out and about with your child in a baby carriage stroller.

Regular baby strollers require that your baby be at least 3 months old to ride.  But a baby carriage stroller is designed for newborn babies from birth onward, so you can get out with your baby as soon as you're ready.

You don't want to feel hopelessly tied to your home after having your baby.  A carriage stroller allows you to run errands or just get out of the house while your baby rests in a

comfortable and fully reclined position.  That way your child can get the sleep he or shee needs.  In fact, there are lots of benefits to using a baby carriage stroller during the first few months of baby's life.

But finding the right baby carriage stroller can be challenging.  Read on to find what to look for and where to get a carriage stroller for your baby.

Using Bassinet Strollers Instead of Regular Strollers

Most upright strollers are made for babies that are at least three months or older.   That means that you'll have to wait until your baby is old enough to use a regular stroller.   Baby carriage strollers (or bassinet strollers) are designed to keep baby in a reclined position, so you can use one as soon as you take baby home from the hospital.  Many parents want to start exercising right away after birth, and bassinet strollers allow you to do that.  Many baby carriage strollers come with parts that can convert into an upright stroller at a later time when your baby is older so they can adjust as your baby grows.

How much does a baby carriage stroller cost?

Typically you'll spend more money on a bassinet stroller than a regular upright stroller.  You can find a carriage stroller for around 250-400 dollars with the high-end or European models running at $600 and above.  Shopping online can help you find a better selection and lower prices.
Where to Buy a Baby Carriage Stroller

There are lots of different places where you can find bassinet strollers.  If you're interested in saving some money but you still want a quality stroller, start by shopping online.  There are internet stores completely devoted to baby carriages with multiple pages of strollers to choose from.  You can also read reviews of carriage strollers and find out the pros and cons of each brand.

You can also buy a baby carriage stroller at regular stores like Walmart and Target or at a baby specific store like Baby Depot or Babies 'R Us.  Also some department stores like JC Penny carry a limited but high quality selection of strollers.
Bassinet Stroller Features

Just like regular strollers, baby carriage strollers come with a wide variety of available features.  Many of the features are focused on safety, so it's important to pay attention to those.  Things like a sturdy frame, harness to hold your baby in and easy to use brakes are big plusses in the safety department.

There are other features more involved in practicality like rubber wheels that won't go flat, easy turning, and cushioned handles.  Things that help the stroller grow with your child like different seating positions, the ability to convert into an upright seat and the ability to hold heavier weights can also be helpful.  And for transport, many bassinet strollers fold up to easily fit into the trunk of a car.

Some additional features that are available are removable seats, compatibility with car seats, reclining seats, different seating configurations, adjustable handles, snack trays, storage areas, canopies and swivel wheels included in the design.  Obviously the more features that are included, the higher the price usually is.

Think about how you'll use a baby carriage stroller and where you'll take it.  Then decide on which features will make life with a stroller easier and more manageable for you.

What to Look For in a Baby Carriage Stroller

When you first go shopping for a baby carriage stroller, its easy to get caught up in all of the features.  But there are a few items that you'll really want to look for in a bassinet stroller.  The most important things to look for are safety, flexbility and durability.  Obviously safety is your number one concern for your child.  Flexibility and durability will make sure that the stroller can grow with your baby and you won't have to replace it with another one.

The safety features that really matter are a good harness to keep your baby in the stroller, locking wheels and good brakes.  A canopy is also an important safety feature because it shields your baby from UVA rays.  Flexibility features like the ability for the stroller to be used with a carseat, a swivel seat that turns frontward and backward, multiple reclining positions and/or the ability to convert the carriage stroller into an upright one.  Another important thing is the  ability for the baby carriage stroller to hold at least 50 pounds.  You don't want to have to buy another stroller when your child reaches toddler stage.  As far as durability goes, you just want to get a carriage that is sturdy and well made with heavy duty plastic or metal.

Safety for Bassinet Strollers

A baby carriage stroller seems like a very safe place for your baby to be and it can be if you put the stroller together properly and you follow all safety precautions.  However, if you don't, your baby can easily fall out of a carriage stroller or it can tip over and your child can become injured.  First off, make sure that you follow all directions when putting the stroller together or adding the bassinet or carseat onto the stroller.  And send in the warranty card that comes with the stroller - this is how you will be notified if there is a stroller recall.

Keep baby away when you're folding the stroller up or unfolding it.  Whenever you place your baby into the carriage stroller, make sure to strap him or her in with the safety harness or belt and the stroller is locked in the proper position.  Only use a stroller that is designed to hold your baby's entire weight.  If the stroller is made for up to 50 pounds, don't test it by using the stroller for your 51 pound toddler.  And only use a single stroller for one child.  If you have two young children, consider getting a double baby stroller but do not put two children in a stroller made for one.

Avoid putting additional things into or on the baby carriage stroller that will increase the weight.  Shopping bags, baby bags and purses do not belong on a baby carriage and could cause the stroller to collapse under too much weight or tip due to unevenly distributed weight.

Always watch the space in front of you when you're pushing the stroller.  A person or object could pop out of nowhere and if you're not looking you might not have time to stop.   Whenever you need to stop or pause for a moment, put on the stroller brake.  It can be easy to lose track of what you're doing and allow the stroller to roll away.  Do not place items into the stroller that can be a strangulation risk for your child - things like blankets can be dangerous in a stroller, particularly if your baby is not facing you the entire time.  And above all, always supervise your baby when he or she is in the carriage stroller.  No safety precaution is better than the watchful eye of a caring parent.
